Spells

Typhoon

8th-level Transmutation

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: 1 mile

Components: S

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour

Classes: Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard Dark storm clouds and howling winds sweep in to fill a swirling 1,000-foot-radius, 60-foot-high cylinder, centered on a point you can see within range. This area becomes ravaged by 100 mph (160 km/h) winds and pelting rain, and suffers the following effects.

  • Massive waves and gale-force winds make travel nearly impossible. A vehicle that uses more than 5 feet of movement on its turn while in the affected area must immediately make a DC 18 Strength saving throw or gain a Mishap.
  • Large or smaller siege weapons have a 50% chance of being instantly destroyed. Huge siege weapons have a 25% chance of being destroyed.
  • Ranged weapon attacks and Perception checks have disadvantage.
  • The air is filled with flying debris. Each creature that does not have total cover takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage when it enters the area for the first time, or starts its turn there and does not have total cover.
  • Walls, fortifications, dwellings, and other structures within this area sustain heavy damage. Large and smaller structures have a 50% chance of being instantly destroyed. All other structures take 28 (5d10) bludgeoning damage.

When you cast this spell, you can choose to create a 60-foot-tall, 50-foot-radius cylinder at the center of the typhoon in which its effects are suppressed. Creatures and vehicles within the “eye of the storm” do not suffer from the effects described above.

As an action on each of your turns for the duration, you can command the typhoon to move up to 20 feet in any direction.
