Chains of Solomon
Chains of Solomon
Wondrous Item, Very Rare
“Benaiah threw the chain around Ashmedai, and enclosed him within it.”
-Gittin 68a (Babylonian Talmud)
This length of chain was forged by the order of King Solomon himself. The links of the chain bear an inscription with the letters of the tetragrammaton: the holy name of God given to Moses. This ancient chain was first given to Benaiah, who used it to capture Ashmedai on the orders of King Solomon during the construction of the First Temple.
As an action, you can speak the command word and throw the chain at a Huge or smaller creature within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 22 Strength saving throw or become Restrained as the chains wrap themselves around the target and bind them in place. A creature (including the target) may use its action to attempt a DC 22 Athletics check to allow the target to escape. If the target’s saving throw is successful or the target escapes its bindings, the chains fall to the ground, landing neatly in a coiled bundle once more. If the target is still restrained after it has made three attempts to escape, it must finish a Long Rest before attempting to escape again.
