Zhanlu
Weapon (jian), legendary (requires attunement) Market Price: N/A
Centuries ago, a legendary Chinese swordsmith named Ou Yezi forged 5 swords of great power. One of these 5 swords was named Zhanlu. According to the legend, Zhanlu was forged using fires from the Elemental Plane of Fire, and wrought from the finest metals in Yezi’s possession. The final product was a gift to the then king of China, but Zhanlu did not remain with the king for long. It is not known how many adventurers have wielded Zhanlu over the last 500 years but, one way or another, it has now passed to you.
Properties of Zhanlu. Zhanlu is a jian; it uses a d8 for its damage die, and Dexterity for its attack and damage rolls. Additionally you gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls with this magic weapon.
Elemental Affinity. Zhanlu contains the innate essence of the Elemental Plane of Fire. While you are attuned to Zhanlu, you can speak and understand Primordial (Ignan). Additionally, any creature with the “Elemental” type that has the ability to deal fire damage makes attack rolls against you with disadvantage, and your Charisma (Persuasion or Deception) checks against such creatures have advantage.
Limited Sentience. Zhanlu is a Lawful Good, sentient weapon. It does not have the ability to communicate, but when you attune to it you become aware of its sentience. Zhanlu passively observes your actions, and will serve you faithfully for as long as it determines that your actions are virtuous. If your Grace Score (AGttB) falls below an 8, if your alignment changes to evil, or if you commit a clearly evil act (determined by the GM) while wielding Zhanlu, the legendary sword may decide to abandon you. If you finish a long rest without making an attempt to atone for your actions, you will awaken to find that Zhanlu has left you.
